Red Oak, Texas is Haunted

Reindeer Halloween Manor

Oddly enough Reindeer Halloween Manor is not only a weird name for a place but is also a “haunted” park that just so happens to be haunted. No, like for real.

Back in 1910, the property was rented to a farming family of Swedish immigrants, and one-night lightning struck the two-story frame home. It caught on fire burning it to the ground. Everyone was killed.

The property owner, James Sharp decided to build a new home on the old foundation. Unfortunately for unknown reasons, Sharp committed suicide by shooting himself before the project was finished. This left his oldest son Matt to take over.

There had been talk from the builders that the land was rejecting the building. That the large main house should not be built atop what was a family tragedy. Now that James was gone, it became harder and harder to keep tradesmen working on the house and other outbuildings. Several left because they heard unseen children screaming. Some left because of the strange lights that would follow them around the property.

After nearly two years, Matt and his new bride took possession of the house and surrounding lands but Matt wasn't happy. Odd things were happening. He woke from dreams drenched in sweat convinced that the house was on fire. He even slept with a bucket of water next to the bed every night. Rumor had it that his pregnant wife was carrying another man’s child. Matt poisoned his wife, leaving her body in the bedroom. And rather than live with what he’d done, he hung himself in the barn.

So, let’s see that’s an unnamed family of five? Dead. James Sharp? Dead. Matt Sharp? Dead. Unnamed wife of Matt Sharp? Dead. Unborn child? Dead. That’s a lot of death and sorrow for one location. So what to do? Oh, I know! Let’s build a haunted park on the property.

Since before the 1980s the property has been an attraction for those that want the jump scare, the painted faces, and random faux chainsaw killers. The property boasts four haunted houses where you can purchase tickets and scream at the special effects and costumed employees.

But didn’t I say this place is haunted? Yeah, well it seems that Matt doesn’t like people in his barn. He’s been spotted outside the building that houses the 13th Street Morgue (one of the haunted attractions) His wife doesn’t appreciate the noise visitors bring and has been known to show herself right before turning off all the lights in the building that was once the main house.

If you choose to visit Reindeer Manor Halloween Park, stay away from the barn. And unless you’re into haunted haunted spaces, don’t go during an electrical storm or you might just hear the children screaming for their parents. But if you do plan your visit, tell the park runners to get some merch. I need a t-shirt.
