Horror Help for Horror Authors

The Required NaNoWriMo Post

Injecting a little humor into this frantic writing, heavily scheduled, extended family immanent month.

  1. Monster Mash-Up Madness: Combine the scariest monsters you can think of into one hilariously terrifying creature. Picture a vampire-zombie-werewolf-ghost who's afraid of the dark. Embrace the absurdity!

  2. When in Doubt, Add Zombies: Stuck in your plot? Throw in a horde of zombies! Zombies can spice up any story, and they don’t mind if you don’t take your writing too seriously.

  3. Ghostly Grammar: If you're haunted by the fear of bad grammar, remember that even ghosts make mistakes. Let your writing spirit flow without worrying too much about perfection.

  4. Hauntingly Bad Puns: Incorporate terrible horror-themed puns into your story. For example, "The vampire couldn’t make a good cup of tea; it always came out a little 'batty'."

  5. The Case of the Missing Plot Twist: Write a scene where your characters are searching for a missing plot twist. Make it a hilarious, Scooby-Doo-style mystery with your characters running in and out of doors.

  6. Monstrous Procrastination: Create a monster that embodies procrastination. Maybe it's a creature that feeds on unfinished manuscripts or a ghost that rearranges your writing notes when you're not looking.

  7. Cliché Monsters Support Group: Imagine a support group for overused horror clichés – vampires complaining about sunburns, werewolves discussing their shedding fur problem, and ghosts swapping haunting tips.

  8. The Horrifying Quest for Coffee: Write a scene where your protagonist faces their scariest challenge yet: making the perfect cup of coffee before the caffeine-deprived monsters awake.

  9. Supernatural Writer’s Block: Your characters suddenly experience a supernatural writer's block. They can’t move forward until they defeat the evil muse who's holding their creativity hostage.

  10. Plot Twist Parade: Throw in unexpected plot twists just for the fun of it. Have a monster reveal a secret passion for knitting or make your haunted house turn out to be a misunderstood introvert.
