The Catfish Plantation
About 30 minutes south of Dallas is the city of Waxahachie (waak·suh·ha·chee)which is the home of a twice-haunted establishment called The Catfish Plantation. It started as a single-family home way back in 1895 and stayed that way until 1970. It then became a few failed restaurants until the Baker family bought it, but it came with two occupants.
Caroline was the original owner. She haunted the kitchen and tended to knock wine glasses off the table due to her teetotaling ways. In fact, the guests were allowed to bring their own bottles of wine to the Plantation, but they might be drinking it from an iced tea glass since the restaurant was unable to keep stemware for long.
The story of Elizabeth is a little more intense. She was a young bride that was murdered by an ex-boyfriend on her wedding day on the property. She tends to show herself in her wedding dress and has been known to write names in the condensation on windows.

Nowadays the Catfish Plantation is closed, a casualty of the pandemic. The cute gingerbread house is still there on Water Street with a For Sale sign in the window. Looking through that window after dark though might not be the best idea. Be careful. Not every entity there believes in southern hospitality. Miss Caroline doesn’t like strangers on her porch.
